Treat Yourself: Real Food Desserts Giveaway

Treat Yourself: Real Food DessertsHello, again, faithful readers! It’s been a while, huh? Sometimes life is just like that. I have about two hundred half-written posts here (give or take) so I should be getting caught up soon. How about, to make up for it, I give you a chance to win something for free?

Do you remember a couple of weeks ago I mentioned Kate Tietje’s new book, Treat Yourself: Real Food Desserts? Well on Friday, I’m going to give one away to a lucky winner. It’s quick and easy to enter.

I have to tell you, this book has already been a lifesaver for me. A few weeks ago, we discovered that my five year old daughter needs to avoid gluten and dairy. Now that’s a whole ‘nother post, but I can tell you that the Vanilla Cupcakes recipe from Treat Yourself has been the first grain-free dessert to actually put a smile on my daughter’s face. They are delicious and she begs for more! (The recipe is not originally dairy-free, but I replaced the milk with coconut milk.)

The best part? Since the base is almond flour (full of protein) and only a little honey is used as the sweetener, I feel GREAT about letting her have these “cupcakes” whenever she asks!

Tomorrow I’m going to share a recipe from the book with you. But I’m so excited to get this giveaway going, I’m going to start TODAY. So, if you’d like to win a copy, here how to enter:

*Click here to take a look at the Table of Contents and comment below to let me know which recipe you’re most anxious to try. (This step is required to win.)

*If you’d like an additional entry, share about this giveaway on Facebook, Twitter, via email… or however else you’d like. (You can use the handy Share button below.) Comment below to let me know that you did.

*Remember to leave a separate comment for each thing you do (1 comment = 1 entry).

I’ll see you tomorrow with a yummy recipe to share, a chance for additional giveaway entries AND a discount code (in case you just can’t bear to wait until the giveaway on Friday).

    Chocolate gelato, definitely!!

  7. PaulaSeptember 13, 2011 - 12:48 pm #7

    Well -
How do I start? I think first off the brownies, then the chocolate cake 1, then the Choc. cake 11, and the cinnamon rolls, scones, okay, let’s say all of them! How cool she even has frosting recipes!

This was a very very hard decision to make! Here it goes, for my husband absolutely the Chocolate Éclairs ( he would do anything for those), and me, definitely the Crepes! I grew up in Europe and crepes are a staple!!! Love baking gluten and grain free!
    Thanks for offering the book!

Wow – nothing beats chocolate for me – and Brownies have got to be my favorite. I would love to know how to make them healthier! What a great idea – real food desserts – do they give out Nobel Peace Prizes for that?

I LOVE cake, so I’d love to try carrot cake (I or II) with cream cheese frosting!!

    Thanks for all the comments!

@Rosalie, Kate mentions in the intro to the book that the recipes haven’t been tested with alternative milks, and that they probably wouldn’t work b/c they don’t have the same texture/ fat content. She suggests using coconut oil (with which many recipes were tested) or coconut milk (which I have substituted successfully) if you don’t do dairy.

@Paula, you are so funny! There should be some sort of prize!

@Jenna Z, make sure to check out the next post (hopefully coming very soon) b/c I’ll be sharing the Carrot Cake I recipe!

I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try one out with Almond Milk? I do love coconut milk too though! I was just reading how regular milk isn’t good for you. Have you done a blog about that? This is what I was reading….http://danmahony.com/bigfood2.htm.

@Rosalie – I will check out that article, thank you for sending! I plan to do a comprehensive post on dairy soon. For now I will say that I do think that dairy from healthy cows, goats and sheep, raised on pasture and without drugs, is VERY good for you. However, that is only if you drink it raw, unhomogenized and full fat. But look for a post on this soon!

Due to other problems in our modern diets, some people find their guts in a state where they cannot tolerate dairy (like my daughter). Coconut milk is a great substitute, and almond milk can be — if you make it yourself. (I’ll touch on why briefly when I publish today’s post when I discuss almond flour. I also HOPE to be doing a video tutorial on making homemade almond milk soon.)

If you try with almond milk, please let me know how it goes!

As an aside, you may want to check out these two previous posts about real dairy.

    Thanks for reading!!!
